We’re only changing out the white laminent counters with a granite. After scouring the internet it seems that most kitchens with white cabinets go for the contrast and pick a darker granite. We’re choosing between a verde butterfly or an uba tuba. First question, am i correct to be looking at darker granite as opposed to a warmer lighter granite like new venetian gold? The granite is actually cream and gray with specks and swirls of other colors.
It should be pretty easy for someone to photoshop a light and dark counter and you could visualize it. I love both, but light granite looks beautiful with white cabinets.
I think your kitchen would look great with lighter granite. Pick one you absolutely love and go for it!! When i initally began looking a granite i was thinking something lighter like new venetian gold because i was afraid it would darken my bright kitchen. Even my granite guy was saying he thought that would look better.
Granite Countertop With White Cabinets
Hopefully a second trip to the granite yard this weekend will help me finally decide. Uba tuba reads black 99% of the time, only when the sun hits it directly at certain times of the day does the green sparkle through – very pretty in my opinion. I don’t think you can go wrong with either light or dark granite. Here are some pictures of my uba tuba granite and white cabs.
Plus, dark granite shows water spots and other spills too easy. I have a small kitchen and all white appliances as well. I was never a fan of stainless but don’t want my white kitchen to look “colorless” so will probably go with something darker or greener. It would go very nicely with your floor tiles.
Then look them all over and see if there’s more there with dark or light or warm counters.
It also depends on what else is in the kitchen such as other colored woods, islands and accessories, and floor color. I want terra cotta floor tile with a warmer granite, the next black counters, and the next white carrera counters and splash. Like blondelle said both dark and light counters look great with white, just depends on what you are drawn to. So take a look around your house and see which way, dark or light seems to fit best in your home. I think the new venetian gold with the travertine backsplash would be very pretty. I don’t have a backsplash yet, and would appreciate any suggestions? It looks so lovely with white cabinets, very striking. Check your slab, some have more red than others.
I think it’s hard when you like a variety of options, easier if you’re decided about a certain look. Then, you may go to a granite yard and fall in love with something, and all your preconceived notions fall be the wayside!
It’s such a personal choice and both can look lovely with white. I think you really have to understand how you best “see” granite. I just don’t “see” it in the best way in a slab first. I looked at tons of pics of dark granites with lighter cabinets.
What Countertop Color Looks Best White Cabinets
Is there a particular granite that you are drawn to? I also agree with everyone else — look at lots of pics and try to figure out which look appeals to you; light or dark. It is one of the granites that never needs sealed, and it seems like nothing will stain it. My coffee maker leaked all over the counters a few days after it was installed, and no stains.
It will give contrast to all the white plus tie into the stove top pretty. Loved it for the dark read with jewelry like sparkle. Cabinets are here but granite templating just done this week.Hope to have pics to post of combo for you next week. I think either approach will be beautiful in your kitchen. Am also doing white cabs – can you share name of granite? Both will look beautiful with white cabs.
Granite is hard but the orthoclase minerals and the microscopic gaps between then can be somewhat porous.
However, honed granites love to show smudges from wipe cleaning and thumb prints.
