Because it has some porosity, you may want to seal it to keep it from staining and soiling.

Clean dust and dirt from all slate surfaces, and let them dry thoroughly before applying two coats of the penetrating tile sealer.

There are finishes that will look natural after application, but many people love the wet-look for their slate floor.

The usual solution is to mix 1 part solution to 4 parts water, but you can also mix 1 part solution to 1 part water when cleaning darker stains. Scrub the floor using a buffer or you can do it manually with a scrubbing pad that has just the right hardness. And you may not be able to protect them soon enough, if they are porous and absorb stains. My tropical hardwood laminate flooring was dull and lifeless prior to applying the entire regime. You’d be surprised at the amount of hair you’ll find on your floors and any left behind will be quite conspicuous in the final finish result.

I noticed it is colorant and grout sealer at the same time, which will be ideal for the moisture protection. I find myself once again applying the product to the grout lines that did not take once again. I would have been better off using regular paint to the grout lines and applying a clear epoxy.

However, if the stone is porous and/or you aren’t experienced at grouting, seal the stone first. Slate is a metamorphic rock, starting as a sedimentary rock and with pressure and temperature over time became slate.

Vermont slate is typically dense, smooth and one consistent color (black, blue, green red). This recipe increases bond and tensile strengths and improves the water resistance of the installation. Note that the sealer needs to be re-applied after every 3 to 5 years for interior surfaces, and every 1 to 3 years for exterior surfaces, depending on the brand. If you are accustomed to waxing floors, you are in for a treat because wax isn’t necessary on slate.

If you can’t decide if you should seal your new slate tiles before installing them, error on the side of caution. Paired with the aforementioned product provides a durable and extremely attractive, polished result. As soon as the last coat dried, there was light dancing everywhere off the finished result. Is there a chance your grout was already sealed and that’s why it’s peeling up?

Wiped up the tile with a damp sponge and the grout lines started to peal along with the excess grout color on the tile.

Using a sponge to wipe off the excess product from the tile; again some took and some did not.
