Marble Vanity Top Installation
The sad thing is that it doesnÂ’t take too much extra money to make a high quality, long-lasting cultured marble product. Now that we have your vanity top and sink fully put together, we will now apply it to the vanity. It should be nearly invisible and let the granite show through.
The problem is that it does take considerable skill to produce a product with consistent high quality. Remove the cultured marble from the vanity after checking its fit. Will you want the sink to be pre-fabricated with the vanity top, or will you want to install a sink yourself?

Marble Vanity Top Installation
The top should overhang the vanity by 1/2 inch on three sides and sit flush to the wall behind it. Measure the cabinet or base you wish to install it on, both length and width. You can hand tighten this, or use a wrench, whatever you feel most comfortable with. If the edges have no gel coat, or if the gel coat is field trimmed to fit the wall or floor, then is that edge impermeable?. LetÂ’s say there is a one quarter inch gap at the back corner of the top and the front corner is just kissing the wall. Apply a thick bead of silicon to all 4 sides of the bathroom vanity. Cultured marble is an acrylic polymer material used for vanity tops and shower surrounds. Tighten all connections not directly attached to the marble top. You will then take your washer and slide it over top of the brass pole on the bottom of the faucet.
The solid piece of the back splash plank from cultured marble doesnt touch the wall on one side, and there is 1-1/2 inch gap between the wall and back splash on a side. If hard water stains develop, just spray them with white vinegar. All youÂ’ll need to install it are a few simple tools and materials and some installation information. Always place a clean rag between the marble and the sticks to avoid scratches. Shower wall panels need to be wedged in place with flexible pieces of wood for 24 hours until the adhesive dries. I want to get a undermount sink so there is slightly more counter space.

Run water into the sink bowl and check the drain pipes and water supply lines for leaks. I actually like the look of marble more than that of granite.
Try to get the back splash area to fit tightly against the back wall. Seal the joint between the pipes and the top with plumber’s putty.
Take bottom of the faucet through the center, pre-drilled hole in your vanity top. If you choose to use a dark colored adhesive, you run a grave risk of seeing the adhesive through the cultured marble once the adhesive dries. A local granite shoppe was able to make a new one using a remnanat and drilled the faucet and drain holes specificaly for our installation. But you can save between 20 percent and 30 percent off a professional installation by doing it yourself.
Doing what the last two posters did would definitely give you the flexibility to choose whatever faucet and sink you want. When the time comes to replace the top or make repairs, the construction adhesive tends to cause damage to the vanity frame when removing the top. Now that we are done preparing the vanity, you will most likely need to find someone to help you get the vanity top on.
Compare patterns and colors that youÂ’ll need to match the dÃ©cor in the room where your vanity top will be in use. Lift the cultured marble top back into place above the vanity and lower it down onto the vanityÂ’s rim. It is easier to clean around it and it gives us more counterspace. It is necessary to have an assistant for this task because of the weight and awkwardness of the vanity top. If the fit is too large, you can try to cut it to the correct size yourself with a circular saw, but you risk splitting the marble. Double-check the side walls if the vanity is being installed right next to a wall. Get in the habit of wiping sink tops off with a hand towel after each use. Apply a clear silicone caulk adhesive to the top surface of the cabinet base that will be glued to the countertop, then remove any excess adhesive using the same cloth and alcohol. If it doesnÂ’t, make needed adjustments to the cabinet or to the counter top. Squeeze a thin line of silicone caulk adhesive along the entire rim of the vanity.
Measure off this amount on the edge of the cultured marble and draw a straight line from front to the back corner to trim the top. Remove any dust or debris on the vanityÂ’s rim that could interfere with the bond of the top to the vanity. I am just today picking up my completed vanity top from the fabricator.
You will then apply a bead of silicon to the outer edge of the sink opening. They arenÂ’t as thick as the granite in my kitchen so we werenÂ’t too concerned about the weight. If the wall is out of square, measure the largest gap between the top and the wall. Once the top is in place, the installation process is very easy and requires few specialized tools. Connect the remaining plumbing according to the manufacturerÂ’s instructions. Wipe down the edge of the vanity where the top will be installed with a soft cloth. Allow all putties, sealing compounds and caulks to dry for 24 to 48 hours before using the vanity for any purpose, especially the sink or other water sources. I want to replace our old laminate countertop with a granite top. Often you need to trim the countertops because a wall may be wavy or a corner is slightly out of square. The sink and counter install in one piece onto the vanity with very little special effort required to get a good fit. Make sure the top has the correct openings for any sinks, faucets or pipes that will run through it.

If you need to repair or adjust the size of your base before installing your new vanity top on it, this will be the time to do that. If you scribe the area that needs to be trimmed off, you can remove the offending marble with a belt sander. I have found pretty good deals on double sink vanities on craigslist. Squeeze three large dollops of silicone adhesive and press them into place. The key to a flawless installation is ensuring the vanity cabinet is level before fastening the vanity top. Fabricators can cut the prefab slabs to the exact length and form three individual segments. If your vanity cabinets are 25″ wide youÂ’ll need 26″ wide tops because you need 1/2″ overhang on each side. Apply a bead of sealing compound around all four edges of the vanity where the top will sit. Apply a half-inch bead of silicone caulk along the top of the vanity framing with a caulking gun. The hardest part about installing the top is making sure that no tools scratch or crack the surface. Apply a line of sealing compound between the edge of the marble top and the wall behind it. Installing cultured marble products is really fairly simple. Otherwise, you may have a problem with the glue adhering properly. I brought them my faucet and vessel sink for them to cut the holes. They can also attach the undermount sinks, drill ports to accommodate the faucet type and cut the backsplash pieces to size.
You simply glue the sink tops to the base cabinets or the flat wall panels to the shower and bath walls.
For tub and shower wall panels, be sure to leave a 1/8 inch gap where the marble meets in a corner and where it rests on the tub edge or shower pan edge. Use your level to ensure that the backsplash is installed level. If the vanity top is heavy and will need to be carried out in pieces, break it up.
The top came with 2 pieces of backsplash Â– one for the back and one for the side, but using them is optional. We used silicone caulking on the top of the cabinets to hold the stone in place. To polish the tops, follow the manufacturerÂ’s suggestions and use the products they recommend. Before fastening, it is a good idea to take care of all the hardware that attaches to the sink. It is very sticky and will not cause a discoloration on light colored cultured marble products. If the corner is out of square you will see a gap on the side of the top where it meets the wall. This gap is then filled with a color coordinated 100 percent silicone caulk.
