My opinion would be not to install a porous tile in a shower, because who wants stuff growing in the shower.

If travertine has an excessive amount of fill (as lower grades of material often has), it might require sealing to make the fill less absorbent – again depending on the kind of fill that was used.

Travertine is not the same as ceramic tile and canÂ’t be cleaned with harsh acidic cleaners like ceramic tile can. The best way to find out if youÂ’re overdue is to see if the stone is retaining water after the shower is used.
